EXCITED ABOUT THE ZEN HUSSIES
We are crazy excited about our live band for this year’s foot-stomping New Year’s Eve party. The Zen Hussies are going to make Racks come alive and see in the best New Year yet. We wanted to introduce them to you ahead of the party so that you can get excited too. Their music is described by lead vocalist Jules as ‘good time roots rhythm and blues ska jive with a dollop of punk’ – sound interesting? The first thing you should do is check out the Zen Hussies video on our New Years Eve party. It’s a lot of fun and shows you exactly what to expect on the night.
Let’s find out who makes up The Zen Hussies and how exactly they formed as a band. Jules gives us more info:
‘The Zen Hussies formed in 2001 at the Hat and Feather in Bath. Our current line up is; Jules Delaquaff on lead vocals, guitar, clarinet and harmonica, Count Sebski on lead guitar, Cha Cha on Baritone Sax and vocals, Tommy Rocket on Double Bass, Mathuselah Hurst on Trumpet and Mikey Barrelhouse on drums. The band formed as a bet that Jules made that he could get to number one in the charts by 2020.’
GLOBAL ZEN HUSSIES
The Zen Hussies aren’t just local to us, they have played some amazing sets at some amazing venues including playing for the Dalia Llama and at Glastonbury:
‘We’ve played at the Artisti In Piazza festival in Italy, The Croissant Neuf tent at Glastonbury and a thousand other …halls and speakeasys across Europe, no two gigs are the same!’
‘Our best memory as a group was when the Dalai Llama saw us at an Amnesty International benefit gig in London some years ago and appeared to levitate during a sax solo, but with hindsight that was probably due to the time we spent at the free Absinthe bar.’
Great to see a sense of humour from the Zen Hussies but we don’t expect that the Racks crew will be levitating during the set on New Year’s Eve.
We know that the atmosphere will be mind-blowing and the Zen Hussies will light up the party to make it a night never to forget but we wondered how it feels to them. I asked Jules to describe the atmosphere when they are playing and this is what I got:
‘When the band is playing all guns blazing, time seems to slow down and it’s hilarious to watch the crowd leaping around the dance floor in action replay. We have seen crowd surfers, stage divers and pole vaulters all express (and injure) themselves to our music!’
THE ZEN HUSSIES THIS NYE
So what can we expect for this New Year’s Eve?
‘The New Year’s Eve party will no doubt be a hoot as this time of year always is, but don’t expect the bandleader to go hurling large amounts of cash into the audience as some rumours on the Internet have alleged occurred at previous gigs!
So without a doubt the Zen Hussies will be putting on a show to remember at our New Year’s Eve party this year. If you’ve bought tickets then you’re in for a super treat (maybe a slightly crazy night too). If you haven’t got tickets yet then get them now, there’s still a few left at the Early Bird price but they’re due to go up very soon!
